Waddesdon: A
Milestone
19 March 2000
|
Location |
Waddeston near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. OS 181. I parked my car near the hotel and walked towards Waddesdon Manor. From there I walked westwards towards Westcott and then north to Upper South Farm. Then I turned back towards Waddesdon. Except for the hill that is occupied by Waddesdon Manor, the countryside around Waddesdon is fairly flat. |

It was an incredibly beautiful and warm springday. I even got a bit of a tan. | |

When I see this old castiron milestone, I can just hear the horsedrawn carriages on the road to London. |

This flowering cherry was in the village of Waddesdon. As Waddesdon is a bit inland and north of London, spring hadn't got very far yet. |

The thorn is just getting leaves. |

The area around Waddesdon wasn't all that inspiring. It was a bit too genteel for my taste. Still, with such lovely weather it was a wonderful walk. |

This is the side entrance to the Five Arrows Hotel in Waddesdon. You can just imagine how lavish the front is. Those chimneys are worth taking a closer look at. |
