Marbella: Contrasts
11 November 2001

Location

Marbella, Province of Málaga, Andalucía.

The first full day I spent exploring the surroundings. I drove up to Coìn and then down to Marbella. The road to Coìn gave me my first taste of the mountains but the town itself proved unremarkable. Most of the pictures on this page are from the harbour in Marbella.

Overview of my holiday in Spain.

Weather

Overcast and very cold. It was noticeably warmer down by the sea.

The view from my hotel window. Not bad, eh?

The road to Coìn went up high in the mountains.

This picture is taken in the same location, only looking more to the right.

On the other side of the road there were low growing pines. They smelled very nice. I never figured out what the little black and white sign meant.

Down at the coast, the views are very different. Here multi-storey hotels and building cranes vie for space.

The backdrop of mountains makes it all the more clear that this place was once unspoilt and beautiful.

In the marina, I found these bright yellow buoys.

Looking towards Gibraltar we can see the sun is starting to inch down below the solid cloud cover. The black spot is a seagull.

At the end of the pier there was a light to guide boats.

The red floatation devices are used to mark out fishing nets.

One last look at a sail boat sailing towards Gibraltar and the setting sun.
