There are three American flags in this photo. Would they have been there if this photo had been taken a year earlier? I doubt it. Something funny I noticed: in the main Bank of America branch in Berkeley there wasn't a single flag to be seen. But in the main branch in Hayward, just a few miles to the south there was a paper flag attached to every monitor. They were all identical so it was like a decorating theme.
In the shops there were many t-shirts saying things like USA #1
or God bless America. I also found a t-shirt that said Goddess
bless America. Teddy bears with patriotic sweaters abounded. I didn't
dare bring my sweaters with Arabic motifs from Granada.
