Collection: Twilight
I love sunsets and sunrises. Sure, they are the ultimate romantic cliché but seeing them in real life is never a cliché. When the sky goes pink, I'm there with my camera.

22 July 2001, Barford St. Michael

This could really be anywhere as it doesn't show anything but sky. Still, it's a lovely picture.

2 September 2001, Farnborough, Berkshire

The last in a series of sunset pictures from Hernehill.

8 January 2000, Wayland's Smithy, Berkshire

This picture was taken on the Ridgeway in the Vale of the White Horse in Berkshire. With all the different types of clouds it could be a meteorology textbook illustration.

16 January 2000, Compton, Berkshire

This sunset also took place in Berkshire. It is enhanced by the haze.

8 December 2001, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire

The fading light colours the haze between the ridges on this winter evening.

13 January 2001, Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire

This picture is in a similar setting of ridges with a mixture of arable and woodland but it's taken looking down one of the ridges, rather than across them.

15 November 2001, Granada, Spain

On the road between Malaga and Granada I caught this sunrise over the Sierra Nevada.

8 January 2000, Wayland's Smithy, Berkshire

Vale of the White Horse again. Crowbirds like to do group air acrobatics before they fly off to their sleeping trees. For someone who has grown up with them, the sound and movement spells evening as sure as the pink tinge on the clouds.

13 November 2001, Orgiva, Spain

The road between Orgiva and Lanjaron was curvy with beautiful view opening up after each turn.

26 November 2000, Lilley, Bedfordshire

Slender pylons walk into the sunset.

13 April 2001, Frensham Common, Surrey

The sun is setting over the sparsely wooded ridge by Frensham Common.

8 January 2000, Wayland's Smithy, Berkshire

Half light, half dark. This would have been a lot less interesting if it hadn't been for the trees on top of the ridge. The next few pictures all feature trees on the horizon more and more prominently.

4 November 2000, Ballinger Common, Buckinghamshire

In this picture, you can still make out the green colour of the pasture. Telegraph poles keep the tree company.

4 November 2000, Ballinger Common, Buckinghamshire

A little closer but in the same location, the green colour has mostly drained out of the foreground. Instead the downside of the clouds are salmon pink.

18 August 2001, Soulbury, Buckinghamshire

The first of a series of sunsets taken in north Buckinghamshire.

7 January 2001, Ley Green, Bedfordshire

I had been following the evening mood with a series of photos but this one is the best. What I like about it, is the subtle shading of the sky.

30 January 2000, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire

In this picture the sky isn't brightly coloured but the unruly cloud still gives it an unsettled feeling.

30 January 2000, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire

In contrast the symmetry of these trees and the reflex in the centre of the horizon make this picture much more peaceful. It could be on the CD sleeve to Eine kleine Nachtmusik.

4 August 2001, Great Tew, Oxfordshire

The sky is still luminous but the trees are black.

3 June 2001, Leith Hill, Surrey

The moon shows over the flat countryside in Surrey.

23 January 2000, Whitchurch Hill, Oxfordshire

A single tree at dusk.

28 December 2000, Stanton Lees, Derbyshire

Turning to a more watery theme, the river picks up the pink of the evening sky as it snakes its way through the snow-covered Peak District landscape.

11 August 2000, Poldu Cove, Cornwall

In this picture from Cornwall, the sun is outside the view finder. Still, the evening mood is palpable. The next few pictures all have the sea in them.

6 May 2001, Dieppe, France

The view of La Manche, the English Channel, from the hill above the harbour in Dieppe.

15 June 2000, Iraklion, Crete

In Iraklion the sun casts a warm light on the Venetian castle that guards the entrance to the harbour. The sea is very calm.

29 December 1999, Lyme Regis, Dorset

Just a little bit rougher in Dorset. This pier looks romantic because of the warm hues of the sky behind it. But it also has romantic connotations because it was used as a set in the movie The French Lieutenant's Woman.

11 November 2001, Marbella, Spain

A boat is sailing into the sunset at the Rock of Gibraltar.

17 June 2000, Malia, Crete

The waves come crashing against the rocky beach and the wind is chasing the clouds.

15 October 2000, A41, Buckinghamshire

The bridge on the right side of this picture gives it the definition that it needs. The sky can't make up it's mind if it's a boy or a girl.

15 September 2001, Lilley, Hertfordshire

I like the way the beech and the grass are silhouetted against the still-bright sky.
